   Disability Benefit Calculation Example
The amount payable under a disability depends on whether or not the disability was job-related or not job-related. Under a job-related disability, the minimum benefit is calculated as if you had 20 years of service (40% of your high five 20 years X 2% formula). A disability that is not job-related has a minimum benefit based on 15 years of service 30% of your high five 15 years X 2%.) If an eligible member has more service than what the minimum benefit is based, the disability benefit is calculated by calculating the number of years of service by the 2% formula.

How your MSRS benefit may impact benefits payable from Workers Compensation
If you qualify for an MSRS disability and receive workers compensation because of your disability, your workers compensation benefit likely will be reduced because of the disability benefits payable from MSRS. MSRS will pay your entire disability amount, and Workers Compensation likely will apply the reduction.

How Your MSRS benefit may impact benefits payable from your Long-Term disability insurance plan
If you purchase an optional Long-Term disability Plan, the amount you are paid from MSRS will reduce the amount you are paid from your disability plan. Any amounts received from Social Security will also lower payments from your Long-Term disability plan. For more information regarding your Long-Term disability plan please contact The Department of Employee Relations at 651-296-2457.
