International Account |

This Account earns returns by investing in the stock of companies outside the U.S. Typically, a
majority of this Account is invested in the five largest international stock markets, that is, United
Kingdom, Japan, Germany, France and Canada. Most of the remainder is invested in other well-established
markets in Europe and the Pacific region. In addition, a portion of the Account is invested in developing
countries or emerging markets, including those in Asia, Latin America, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and
Africa. Approximately half of the Account is actively managed by several international stock managers that
use a variety of styles and approaches. These managers buy and sell stock in an attempt to maximize market
value. The remainder of the Account is passively and semi-passively managed and is designed to track
consistently the return of 22 markets included in the Morgan Stanley Capital International Index of the
World ex-U.S.
